The team set out to ski fast in a powerful and exciting
way – and they did! We were easily among the elite group
of skier nations at this event. And in that elite group are
Austria, France, Switzerland, Japan and Korea.
One area where we stood out was our teaching. From
those attending our team’s teaching sessions, the feedback
was outstanding. Fast, exciting, we skied lots, right on with
technique!...

Following are a few notes from the sessions – both on hill
and indoor that I attended.
Switzerland (on hill) They talked about the switch
from one turn to the next in the following contexts:
• Cross OVER. This is where the upper body (COM)
passes over the feet. You let the body fall and
incline rapidly into the new turn over the feet.
• Cross UNDER. This is where the feet move quickly
from side to side. The COM would follow a more
steady route. As an example they used bend and
stretch turns to show the fast movement of the feet.
• Cross MIX. As you guessed this is a mix of the
above – the edge angle may be increased quickly –
and the upper body is also allowed to move in fast.
This combination allows for the best balance and a
very quick switch.
