Too much noise recently!
It's snowing! What is your ski plan this winter? Just ordered an instructional DVD for ski techniques in snow parks. Do you have any information/idea for sharing?

Sure, this DVD is for entertainment. Just like reading, I am no intention to follow the authors' suggestionsskier888 寫:I go to a camp for that. it is safer.

You don't know your new skis are the new design rocker skis? Interesting. Yes, the pictures you shown are rockers. Have you try them? Just curious how they work compares to the old designs.skier888 寫:I dunno, it never occured to me to look for rocker when I get my new skis that is a lot less than 80mm under foot. Do they sell one?

Funny thing is a good landing usually begins with a good take off, so we still have to go back to take off. At the beginning, I'd start with small jumps, "pop" over with the speed, not "jump"; it is the "speed" that carries the jump, not the leg muscle jumping, which may actually break the speed. With both skis parallel forward, land it on both feet (not your skis) at the same time, and "stump" the landing, and ski away. A landing that you cannot ski away is not a [good] landing.PSBoy 寫:ThanksYou may share to me how to land if you don't mind.
For my age the terrain park is now my forbidden fruit (my body cannot really afford for any injures), so I only do it now and then, but it was really fun.

It's a very practical explanation. BTW, could you explain a bit about the hand and upper body posture?taichiskiing 寫:Funny thing is a good landing usually begins with a good take off, so we still have to go back to take off. Maybe forbidden fruit is very attractive especially you are a man...hehe! Yes, injury is not good for us. That's why skier888 suggested me to attend course instead of self-learning. Anyway, it is really fun when I am on air

For beginner, you maybe better off just coast and not pop. Like he says about take off. I'll add that you most likely will use turn to check speed before your jump. It is best just make one turn to slow down instead of multiple turns. It will help you align your line. You probably wil not jump straight if you make multiple turns before take off. This is also where visualization help. You plot what you want to do in your mind in advance. This is important becasue it helps to make things automatic. Some people mind will go blank when they are in the air. There are other things to consider when you land larger jump.PSBoy 寫:It's a very practical explanation. I put my hands in front when I jump.

Thanks, skier888, for the detailed explanation.
Now, I know some key points that can help me to discuss with others.
Any suggestions of dryland exercise and park skis?

In a straight jump, try to keep the arms level with shoulders, forward and to the sides (open arms), upper body upright/straight, and keep the hands steady as through they are your wings as you fly through the air. Upon landing, stiffen your arms/hands as you stump, which would keep your whole body together with the momentum, then you can easily ski away.PSBoy 寫:It's a very practical explanation. When I was younger, I took a lot of so-called "calculated risks," and ended up busted my left pelvis, and almost got myself killed, but I did learn the lesson though, so nowadays when I ski, whatever I do, it's now always "safety first." Be careful out there.Maybe forbidden fruit is very attractive especially you are a man...hehe! Yes, injury is not good for us. Totally agree and thanks for your sharing.
