taichiskiing 寫:Your battery will only last for two hours, and less if the temperatures are cold; for 5 days of filming, you definitely need a charger. Gopro battery is charged with a USB terminal on a PC/Imac/laptop(?), there are also "wall-outlet" chargers, as well as car cigarette lighter chargers; you probably don't have time to order them; check out REI, they may carry some. And if you don't download the clips you shot, you may still run out of memory too. But anyway, have fun.
So, what's your plan to come to Tahoe?
:)

Ps. What forecast said "maybe a few snow flakes" turned to be a few inches freshy snow, way cool, did some trail powder skiing, skied some bumps today, and the moguls on Little Dipper are getting bigger. A fun day.
I will bring a laptop to do both every evening: 1. charge the GoPro battery, and retrieve video clips from GoPro. One thing that I am not sure is about the idle mode. If I don't shoot when I am on a lift chair, should I turn the GoPro off?
I will give you a call when we arrive there Sunday evening/afternoon. If that weather report comes true, it will be wonderful!!! About bumps, I enjoy blue trail bumps ... not too big and not too small (but they got to be soft and not icy). I cannot handle well black trail big bumps yet.

That will do. I would leave the gopro on if I'm ready to shoot in a relative short time, as the camera may need to warm up, but turn it off if there'll be long idle time; leave it on does shorten the shooting time. The comments on the following clip describe some of the problems if gopro didn't warmup,

Sounds good. Since PKU is not coming, you can have all my body passes, and I also have have six "ski with a friend" passes ($70), you guys can have them, but you need to figure out how to share them among your 11 people group. It is a big group, are they all hot-shots? Sounds fun.
'later, :)

PS Lift ticket for adults is $85, and snow is forecasted for next tue. Feb 7.

Hmmm... The vidio does not look good before it warms up. Maybe my shooting needs to be very selective - not to shoot everything. Say, I might shoot 1 hour every morning and 1 hour every afternoon. Maybe I'll shoot only on some signature runs (e.g., Big Dipper, Little Dipper, Olympic Run etc.)

With the help from Brian (PKU's friend), I and some friends bot Warren Miller's buy-1-get-1-free coupon for Heavenly. Thanks for offerning buddy passes and SWAF passes. I believe that some friends in our group have not taken care of their lift tickets yet, so we will need your passes. I'll ask around when we get there. BTW, do you happen to know if there is any discount tickets for Northstar and Squaw? Wonderful ... we need snow!

Ok, we're settled then, party is on, just wait for you guys to get here. Next Tue and Wed are now forecasted for snowing, and Heavenly has opened up the full bore to man-make snow on the Face and Gunbarrel.

Gunbarrel!! I did not do Gunbarrel last time we visit Heavenly. I'll definitely want to try that this time! Don't ski too fast ... I am not as good as PKU, but I want to try that famous Gunbarrel!!

Oh well, Gunbarrel/the Face has not opened yet, but I think it will be opened in next week, if not this weekend. Snow is now only forecasted on next Tue, nevertheless, still good. Good luck.
For Monday, I think we shall meet at California lodge ticket windows @8:45 to get you guys' lift tickets, lifts open at 9:00. You may need to figure out how to take the shuttle buses to go to Cal-base, (it is "Orange" route). And last minute checking, you're in luck, for the first time this season, the Face is open today.
And I double checked my body passes status, 4 body passes still good at the $60, but 6 "ski with a friend" tickets are now $82, which is a joke as the regular price is only $85 listed on their website, but again that price is a discounted price from the original $96 already, and outside discount ticket seller is selling it at $92. So, I'm not sure what is the "disount" anymore. My suggestion is maybe you guys all pay the full price, and use the difference to pay for the dinner; I maybe able to get you guys in Harrah's forest buffet for local half-price deal too. Call me on the Sunday evening, we'll tie up all loose ends then.
Have a nice trip. :)

Really sorry that we can't keep our promise to join the Lake Tahoe trip
We just arrived at Golden, will ski the Kicking Horse for 3 days and then 3 more days at the Revelstoke mountian. Will be sunny days with no new snow. Should take some video.
Enjoy your skiing there

Ok, you guys have a nice skiing vacation too.
Here's some shot on the Face on the opening day, 02-04-12.
Skiing on Kicking Horse is tough because of the poor lift system there. Need to ski almost 1050 meter vertical on steep runs without much warm up on easier runs. We were like dead at the end of the day.
ski there one day and switched to Lake Louise but there is not enough snow there. Ski mostly groomed one there and now ready to ski Revelstoke tomorrow.

Guess that is why they call themselves "kicking horse."

The forecasted snow storm didn't materialized yesterday and Heavenly only got some frozen drizzles, but we made the best of it,
We skied 2 days on Revelstoke Mountain. The most vertical drop in North America ( I believe, a liittle bit more than Whistler Blackcomb. ) The terrain design is not good since it is only a part of the big project but no money to keep going. The runs are very long so get very tired. Decide to go home today after breakfast and ski our home resort Sunday.

beg - Thank you! I came back home last night. It was a nice trip, especially that it was very enjoyable to ski with Taichiskiing. He is really a Taichi master. I could not believe until I skied with him. To put in simple words, Taichiskiing has probabaly the best balance of all skiers that I've ever seen, and his skiing is hundreds times better than walking.

pku - Please don't worry about that. (請別放在心上) We had a wonderful time in Lake Tahoe area. I have heard "Kicking Horse" from ski magazines. I will get you to ski together there one day in the future, and you will be our mountain guide! I can't wait to see your videos of skiing Kicking Horse. Please share!

Taichiskiing - Thanks a lot for shooting so many videos for us, and I appreciate so much about your help when our group was in Tahoe area. It really makes me feel that I want to go back Tahoe to ski with you again and again in future years.
This video clip showed our first run of the first day on Olympic trail, so I skied relatively conservative. You see that I cruised most of the time and did not apply much pole planting.

This one was our second day of skiing on Olympic trail. You see that I skied much better than that on the first video clip. The bad thing was that we got a lot of ice on camera lense this time.
