I have 1 and used to use it for like 1 season after my post ACL rebuild. The biggest problem I find in using it is my skin allergic to the tapes. I also find the joints of the brace may not coincide with the joints of the knee when in use. Nowadays I don't use it anymore.

Hi Carver, you changed your avatar? I've never used knee braces before. I am not sure if they will function as what's said in their advertisement.

as i understand it, it only prevent hiperextension, it wont function if the tibia is twisted against the femur! becareful, dont take it for granted that it will save your ACL. Try to imaging how the brace response to a twice of tibia against femur and you can tell it yourself. I dont get used to serious, but this one! no joke

a little bit more. the misalignment between the two axis (the brace's axis vis the knee's axis could easily grind out your knee. its only from my experience. if in doubt try to figure out more from the internet or consult an ACL specialist(dont consult ORP as they dont know skiing as much as u do).

Thanks for advice! Now I know their limitation.
BTW, how come I don't see my avatar? I have uploaded a small icon from my control panel, and I do see it there. Strange that I don't see if from my posts.

Conclusion: Norman is the owner or admin of this forum, so he has the privilege to display his own avatar on his posts. For others, we can only select from a list of default icons. This forum does not provide the functionality like other forums for users to upload their own avatars.

To my experience/understanding, external supporting devices may give better support and comfort for some minor [joint]movements, but they don't really work for the full-blown, full-action sports. As Carver indicated, they may create more problems than they solve. The forces for the high level techniques must develop from inside/internal joint movements and supports.
I busted my knee when I was developing Taichi Skiing 1986. I was following a guy down on a narrow steep chute at Alyaska, AK and he freaked out and stopped in the middle of the chute. To avoid the immanent collision, I forced a sharp right turn, but crashed on the steep side of the chute, and busted my left knee (I think that injury may actually set up the stage for my now arthritis). What do I mean by "busted"? The lower leg was still there, but I can neither move it nor feel it as though the lower leg was gone (that was really weird feeling). We were down and out in Alaska at the time (remember the story my flight school was closed?) and nearly flat broke (and that came two months later), no money for doctors. So I used my Kungfu 推拿 knowledge massaged/fixed the lower leg back to have some feeling and reset the knee joint a bit so it gained a little movement back. As my Kungfu training and firm belief that proper exercise heals all injured/non-broken joints and muscles like mine, I went back to ski the next days, skied mildly but pushing... two weeks later, the knee joint popped back in, and I gained the full control of knee/leg back; I fixed my knee, at least I thought.
There were still some acute angles I would feel painful and weak lingering, I thought I brought it, not much I can do, so I continued to ski with them the whole season, only tried to avoid those movements that caused pains. I carried that condition for eight years.
Nevertheless, later when I was developing a warm-up exercise for my Kungfu classes, the left hip popped, and all my left leg pains were gone, and I regained the full control and full range movements of my left leg back. So I knew that warm-up exercise worked and now it's developed into the full-blown Shen style Taichi Qi-Gong, (haven't figured out the description yet, maybe later,) YouTube - 沈氏太極氣功/Shen style Taichi Qi-Gong
Not sure what's the problem with your knees, nevertheless, this knee exercise did fixed a few knees, on and off the 'net,
